November, December Registers 9.4% Export Earnings Rise
09/02/10 - TueZambia has recorded a 9.4 percent increase in the total value of exports between November and December last year, Central Statistical Office (CSO) Director, Mrs. Efreda Chulu has said.
Mrs. Chulu said metal products recorded a higher value in revenue growth of 9.4 percent in nominal terms in the last two months of 2009.
Non-traditional products (NTEs) on the other hand registered a slight decrease of 2.4 percent export earnings during the same period of time.
Mrs. Chulu said the country’s major export products in December 2009 were copper and related articles such as ores, slag and ash, which accounted for 80.3 percent of the total export earnings.
The five major destinations of Zambia’s exports during the period under review were Switzerland, China, South Africa, Congo DR and the United Kingdom, which collectively accounted for 87.4 percent of the country’s export earnings.
In individual terms, Switzerland accounted for 64.4 percent, China 8.6 percent, South Africa 7.2 percent and Congo DR 5.1 percent, while United Kingdom accounted for 2.1 percent.
