Privitisation Status

Under Negotiations

Maamba Collieries Limited (MCL). MCL is a coal mine with proven reserves of 60.2 million tonnes.

The Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) transferred its 100% shares in MCL to ZCCM Investment Holdings plc (ZCCM IH) through a Share Transfer Agreement signed in 2007.

ZCCM IH is currently negotiating the sale of its majority stake in MCL to Nava Bharat of India. The deal when concluded will include the development of a Thermal Power Plant expected to be 350MW.

Offered/Advertised

Njanji Commuter Services (NCS). NCS used to operate a commuter train service in Lusaka city. The Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) approved the concession of the assets of NCS which are basically the railway line covering a distance of almost 14km.

NCS has now been advertised and technical proposals are invited from technically and financially qualified bidders to rehabilitate the railway line invest in rolling and operate the railway transport system in the city of Lusaka.

DGH Polyproducts Limited (DGH). DGH is a manufacturing company producing plastic products located in Lusaka city.

DGH has now been advertised and technical proposals are invited from technically and financially qualified bidders.

Motor City Limited. Motor City Limited was formerly known as Avalon Motors and its main line of business was the sale of motor vehicle spare parts, motor vehicle repairs and sale of motor vehicles on behalf of its clients. This line of business is no longer being pursued.

The company is now available for sale as none going concern.
Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ). NCZ is a manufacturer of fertilisers and industrial chemicals and is wholly-owned by the Government of the Republic of Zambia. NCZ main line of business has the manufacture of Ammonium Nitrate for further processing into explosives for the mining industry. NCZ was later expanded to include the production of NPK Compound fertilisers, sulphuric acid and Ammonium Nitrate fertiliser. Operational difficulties attributed to design deficiencies and other factors including loss of market following the liberalization of the fertiliser market, increased production costs and lack of working capital causing the closure of the Ammonia and Ammonium Nitrate plants in 1991 and 2002, respectively.

NCZ is available to investors capable of recapitalising the company and bringing it back into profitable production.

Zambia Telecommunication Corporation. ZAMTEL is an Information Communications Technology company wholly owned by Government. ZAMTEL operates the PSTN (landlines), internet and mobile services in Zambia and also has the rights to operate the international gateway.

The Government has decided to offer the majority stake in ZAMTEL to a strategic equity partner to recapitalise the company.

Future Floatation

Nanga Farms Plc is an agricultural based company producing sugarcane for the sugar industry. The sugar produced by Nanga Farms plc is off taken by Zambia Sugar plc which is owned by Illovo Group of Companies.

Government holds 23.7% shares in Nanga Farms Plc and these could be available for flotation to the Zambians through the Lusaka Stock Exchange (LuSE).
