TRAINING PROGRAMMES
INTRODUCTION
The Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE) Training Unit of the Zambia Development
Agency (ZDA) is tasked with the responsibility of empowering MSEs with life long-
skills in how to run and manage their businesses more effectively and efficiently. The
Unit carries out tailor-made programmess to suit the needs of it clientele. The
programmes on offer are divided into two categories namely business management and
technical skills programmes.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of training MSEs in various programmes is to equip them with knowledge and skills in how to successfully run their businesses so that they can contribute significantly to the economic growth of the country through income generation, employment creation and poverty alleviation.
TARGET GROUP
The training programmes listed hereunder are targeted at potential as well as existing entrepreneurs about to start or already running various businesses.
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SKILLS:-
· Entrepreneurship skills development i.e. Training of Trainers (TOT) and Training of Entrepreneurs (TOE)

· HIV/AIDS and Business
· People and Productivity
· Gender and Entrepreneurship Together (GET) Ahead for Women in Enterprise
· Improve Your Exhibition Skills
· Business Development Services
· Business Plan Preparation
· Contracts and Tendering Procedures
· Formation and Strengthening of Business Associations
· Financial management and
· Marketing
· Training for Transformation
· Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
TECHNICAL SKILLS PROGRAMMES:-
· Meat processing
· Jam and fruit juice production
· Mushroom production
· Fabric painting
· Tie and dye/ batik
· Flower arranging
CRITERIA
· These should be able to read and write in the language of instruction
· Should be able to do simple calculations
· Should be self motivated and eager to learn
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION
The training programmes are delivered in English and vernacular spoken in the area where the training is taking place.
In its delivery of some of these programmes, ZDA has been working with the European
Union’s Capacity Building for Private Sector Development Project as its partner. The
Project has been providing ZDA’s MSE Division wit funding for materials and equipment.
Small Aggregation Initiative
A program for implementation through the Triangle of Hope Initiative to bolster economic growth through SMEs.
Entrepreneur and Technology Programme
The creation of sustainable support structures to help SMEs build innovative and internationally competitive enterprises.
Economic Empowerment
The programme to stimulate investment, entrepreneurship and employment creation within the MSME sector and through pro-poor business models.
Business Development Services (BDS)
The overall objective of the BDS programme is to provide vouchers to build demand-driven capacities of MSMEs.
