ENGINEERING AND FOUNDRY

The Engineering and Foundry sub-sector trades in products such as copper wire of different sizes and dimensions, metal alloys, electric conductors, metal plates and machinery and parts. In 2019, the top export products of the sector included copper wire, ferro-silico manganese, parts of pumps, copper plates unwrought led, iron and steel bars and equipment such as self-propelled front-end shovel loaders and dumpers for off-highway use.

In 2019, the sub sector earned a total of USD 427.67 million, a reduction of 0.7% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 424 million.  

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Congo DR, South Africa, Zimbabwe, United Arab Emirates and Tanzania.

CHEMICALS AND PHARMACEUTICALS      

The Chemicals and Pharmaceutical sub-sector trades in products such as sulphuric acid, explosives, detergents, yeast, herbicides, paint, toiletries, fertilizers and gases such as oxygen and nitrogen among other products. In 2019, the top export products of the sector included sulphuric acid, all kinds of sulphur, prepared explosives, detergents, fertilizers and active yeasts.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 383.1 million in 2019, a reduction of 7.23% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 410.78 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Congo DR, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique.

In 2019, the top export products of the sector included non-alcoholic beverages, oil-cake of soya-bean, sweet biscuits, cane or beet sugar, sugar confectionery, preparations of cereals, vegetable fats and oils and their fractions, raw cane sugar, soya bean flour and meal and chewing gum.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 267.49 million in 2019, a reduction of 26.55% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 338.5 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Congo DR, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana and Rwanda.

In 2019, the top export products of the sector included un-stemmed tobacco, cotton, maize seed, stemmed tobacco, maize, soya beans, coffee, plants or parts, of a kind used in perfumery, and cotton linters.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 260.04 million, an increase of 8.52% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 237.9 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Congo DR, Malawi, Kenya, South Africa, Switzerland, Tanzania, Rwanda, Mauritius, Singapore and Germany.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 136.1 million, an increase of 97.98% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 2.75 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Singapore, India, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, China, United States of America, Mauritius and United Kingdom.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 120.68 million, a reduction of 38.74% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 167.44 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included South Africa, Switzerland, China, Hong Kong, India, United Arab Emirates, North Korea, Congo DR, Singapore and Serbia and Montenegro.

The Building Materials sub-sector trades in products such as portland cement, cement clinker, prefabricated buildings, panel boards, ceramic tiles . In 2019, the top export products of the sector included portland cement, cement clinkers, articles of stone or other mineral substances, prefabricated structural components for building, ceramic roofing tiles, flagstones, building blocks and bricks, natural steatite, talc, glazed ceramic flags and paving and worked marble, travertine and alabaster.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 120.19 million, a reduction of 51.57% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 182.17 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Congo DR, Malawi, Burundi, Zimbabwe, China, India, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, United States of America, Iran, South Africa and Uganda.

ELECTRICITY       

The Electricity sub-sector trades in electrical energy. In 2019, the country faced a deficit of water, leading to a drop in generation of electrical energy which led to a significant fall in export of electricity for the most of the year.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 63.62 million, a reduction of 9.2% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 69.48 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Congo DR, Namibia, Botswana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

The main exporter of electrical energy in Zambia is ZESCO.

NON-METALLIC MINERALS    

The Non-Metallic mineral sub-sector trades in products such as lime, coke, magnesium oxides, bituminous coal and gypsum. In 2019, the top export products of the sector included quicklime, slaked lime, magnesia and other magnesium oxide, hydraulic lime, coal, feldspar, limestone flux, limestone and other calcareous stone, natural magnesium carbonate, coke and semi-coke of coal, plasters, bituminous coal and gypsum.

In 2019, the sub sector earned a total of USD 63.1 million, an increase of 3.67% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 60.76 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Congo DR, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa, China and United Arab Emirates.

In 2019, the top export products of the sector included frozen cuts and offal of chicken, live fowls, fertilised birds’ eggs, frozen tilapias, flours, meals and pellets, of meat or meat offal, frozen whole chickens, cream in powdered form, frozen edible bovine offal, prepared or preserved sardines, frozen cuts and offal of turkeys and frozen fish.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 35.03 million, an increase of 46.37% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 18.79 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Congo DR, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Botswana, Tanzania, Namibia, Congo, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Mozambique.

In 2019, the top export products of the sector included sawn, rough wood, non-coniferous wood, pallets, box pallets and other load boards of wood, parts of furniture, cases, boxes, crates, drums and similar packings of wood, wooden boards, articles for the packing of goods, wooden furniture, wooden office furniture, wooden bedroom, unbleached coniferous chemical wood pulp, soda or sulphate, wooden doors and frames and veneer sheets and sheets for plywood.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 23.47 million, an increase of 42.8% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 13.41 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included China, South Africa, Vietnam, Congo DR, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya, Belgium, Namibia and Taiwan.

In 2019, the top export products of the sector included fresh or chilled vegetables, dried leguminous vegetables, dried broad beans and horse beans, fresh fruit, dried beans, bulbs, tubers, macadamia nuts in shells, fresh apples and dried kidney beans.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 9.96 million, a reduction of 34% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 13.36 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Germany, South Africa, United Kingdom, Congo DR, Netherlands, Malaysia, China, Malawi, New Zealand, Tanzania, France and United Arab Emirates.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 8.1 million, a reduction of 21.23% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 9.78 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, South Africa, Belgium and Congo DR.

PETROLEUM         

The Petroleum sub-sector trades in products such as oils, pitch coke, petroleum bitumen, petroleum gases and petroleum jelly. In 2019, the top export products of the sector included liquefied petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons, pitch coke, jet fuel, lubricating grease, petroleum bitumen, gas oils, gaseous petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons waste oils and base oils.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 5.92 million, a reduction of 39.87% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 8.27 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Congo DR, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.

In 2019, the top export products of the sector included polythene sacks and bags, artificial yarn, Labels, badges of textiles, jute sacks and bags, multiple or cabled yarn, tarpaulins, dyed woven fabrics, textile for technical uses, synthetic filament tow, and conveyor and elevator belts and belting.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 5.56 million, a reduction of 19.28% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 6.64 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Malawi, Congo DR, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Mozambique, Swaziland, United Kingdom and South Africa.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 5.07 million, a reduction of 22.85% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 6.24 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included Singapore, India, Nigeria, South Africa, Italy, Congo DR, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, China and Tanzania.

In 2019, the top export products of the sector included collections and collector’s pieces of zoological interest, articles of worked bone, tortoise-shell and horn, paintings, drawings and pastels executed entirely by hand, collages and similar decorative plaques, executed entirely by hand, worked vegetable or mineral, original sculptures and statuary, Original engravings, prints and lithographs.

The sub sector earned a total of USD 1.19 million, an increase of 1.34% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 1.18 million.

The main export markets for products of this sub-sector included United States of America, Italy, South Africa, Germany, United Kingdom, Kenya, France, Hungary, Russian Federation and Austria.

The sub sector earned a total of USD1.15 million, an increase67.44% from the previous year’s earnings which stood at USD 373 thousand.
