Zambia Woos Investors in Spain

Zambia’s tourism has taken the spotlight on the sidelines of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) that is being held in Madrid, Spain. Zambia’s tourism was today being discussed at an Investor forum jointly hosted by the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA), Ministry of Tourism and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

The Investment forum received high level delegations from across Africa, Europe and America. Some government officials also came through to join the discussion, including but not limited to the Ministers of Tourism from Zimbabwe and Chile.

The Spanish Chambers of Commerce, which is the largest Chambers in Europe with a membership of half a million companies came to the forum as well. The Chambers expressed interest to sign an MoU with ZDA for enhanced collaboration in increasing Investments in Zambia from Spain.

In addition, the UNWTO entered into an agreement with the Ministry of Tourism to support Zambia’s hosting of the 2nd UNWTO Regional Conference on Brand Africa, scheduled to be held beginning 16th April 2024.

The delegation from Zambia was being led by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Evans Muhango, Director General ZDA Mr. Albert Halwampa and ZTA CEO Mr. Matamwandi Matongo.

In addition discussions were held with COFARES, a Spanish pharmaceutical distribution company with over 30% market share in Spain. The company has expressed interest to expand to Zambia in three aspects:

  1. Extension of distribution to Zambia
  2. Setting up a distributing company in Zambia
  3. Providing consultancy services such as feasibility studies for the healthy sector.
